As follow-up to the recent "generations" thread on Web4Lib, the cover story of the new Time magazine is about yet another generation, the "Twixters":

Karen and Bernie both make very good points. I am one the space age children who went to school after Sputnik was launched. After high school I went into the Navy and was an electronics technician during the transition from tubes to trassitors and integrated circuits. I have been using computers in one form or another since 1975 when I used punch cards to create APL programs for a population biology course I was taking. In 1979 I worked for National Planning Data Corporation digitizing county and SMA maps using a mincomputer system call AutoTroll. When I was at graduate school at Drexel in 1984, I used the first generation of the Apple MacIntosh as well as the second generation of the IBM PC. I sometimes find I have much more in common with my 17 year old son than I do with those in my own gneration when it comes to attitudes towards using computers and other digital technologies.
