Good find, Bernie.. there's lots of bits and pieces of Google's "roadmap to
OS" appearing.

I put a short item on my blog about this, see
http://drweb.typepad.com/dwdomain/2005/08/google_rumored_.html

Here's the gist.. wondering if there's a possible way to segue this towards
Web4Lib.. hmm, how about what if there was *another* platform OS and it was
"open source," would that be something libraries would applaud and adopt, or
would we face the purchase the "standard OS" arguments even with this grand
new OS development?"

"Thanks to Bernie Sloan of Web4Lib mailing list for the update note on this
one.. many of the key signs are there, if you understand how software and
applications are built.. the Google team is interested in the Operating
System (OS).. it is a fundamental platform from which all their other
interests can derive, and expand.. it's a natural progression.. and the most
efficient way for Google to become what Google wishes to be.. "platform" for
the world's information.. so, Instant Messaging (IM) fits in the "on top"
layer, and continues the build-out.. It will be Windows, Mac, and Google
before long.. or, I'll probably lose the bet..."
