Using CSS to style the first occurence of an element nested within another element

Hi,

I'm attempting to style the first table cell within certain table rows.
I'm using the following CSS instructions. The table cells do not have a
class attribute.

tr.selectedclass td:first-node{color:green;}

However, this is not working.

Any ideas would be most welcome.
