Copernic is free and can handle network drives.

Google desktop searches all local drives. It will not work on network
drives. Of course, Google does sell a product that does this.

There is a commercial alternative also: for years I have used
dtSearch, a
full-text indexing program (in fact I first came across it as DOS
shareware
in about 1988). It takes a long time to build an index but it's
blazingly
fast on searches. I mention it because it works well across multiple
network
drives which I don't know if Google or Microsoft desktop engines
will do (I
had the impression that they would only search a C: drive, not D:
thru Z: -
might be totally wrong about that).
