Seeing Double in DWMX

Hello, all.  As a new and reluctant user of Dreamweaver MX, I keep 
discovering that the Dreamweaver Genie has doubled-spaced my code and 
scattered all my text paragraphs and tag attributes across a few lines. 
  (This definitely seems to occur if I take a peek at the "design 
view.")  Is there any way to override the Dreamweaver Genie and/or 
restore my single-spacing?
