Position Description
Web Services Coordinator

Position Summary: This position reports to the Assistant Director for Curriculum and Technology for activities related to the Library's web page. For activities related to the top level of the Medical Center web page, this position works closely with the Associate Vice President for Educational Resources. This position functions as a bridge between library staff and the Medical Center web services division, working to coordinate a unified web presence for the Medical Center and library within the University.

Programming Duties
·	Develop and support custom applications; work closely with library departments to determine development requirements.
·	Document all library development projects.
·	Develop library Intranet site.
·	Add new pages to library site as new requirements come up (such as current Medical News).
·	Handle accounts on the GWUMC "Control Panel" for library access to Medical Center-wide applications.
·	Responsible for majority of application programming on the GWUMC web servers. In particular, all programming that is used by multiple GWUMC departments (i.e.: applications that can be made generally available, or that can be of use to multiple departments, such as the News and Events Database, or the File Management application).

General Duties
·	Chair library Web Committee.
·	Attend library meetings (Strategic Planning, ERC, Technology Committee as needed).
·	Maintenance of library site in conjunction with Publications Specialist.
·	Investigate new projects and technologies for use on library site.
·	Coordinate weekly link check reports; fix broken links as needed. Forward Internet Resources link check report (runs separately from general report) to appropriate librarian.
·	Write and maintain Library Web Site Style Guide/Standards Manual.
·	Primary contact for users of Web Services services and account holders. Handles requests for new projects and/or web sites; makes decisions on whether or not to accommodate new requests.
·	Sets and enforces GWUMC web policies in coordination with the Vice President for Educational Resources.
·	Handles the generic "web at gwumc.edu" email account, answering or referring questions as necessary.
·	Manage/track software licenses, request/purchase server and/or workstation upgrades (hardware and software).
·	Provides leadership and direction for GWUMC web presence. Works with GWUMC departments to ensure cohesive design, accuracy, and "freshness" of overall site.
·	Researches and implements new and standards compliant technologies to enhance GWUMC site (such as providing online discussion and/or chat boards, portal, Intranet sites, Content Management System, etc.).
·	Manage weekly link check reports; fix broken links as needed.
·	Work with CASS and Academic Computing for special projects and issues, including cooperative programming efforts (such as student facebooks) and general server issues (the monthly CASS meetings, firewall migration, etc.).
·	Daily and weekly incremental backups of web content. Monthly backups of web content to CD. Maintain off-site backups.
·	Checks ColdFusion server logs for routine maintenance and debugging purposes; checks the CF mail logs to ensure no failed email are "stuck" on the server. Resends failed mails, or deletes if the email is malformed or otherwise undeliverable.

Supervisory Duties
·	Supervises Library Publications Specialist/Web Assistant (FT).
·	Works with Biomedical Communications Web Designer in a supervisory capacity to insure compliance with web standards.

Qualifications: 3-5 years experience in web programming, preferably with ColdFusion and SQL; MLS from an accredited school or equivalent mix of education and experience; strong working knowledge and understanding of current web standards and user interface design and principles; strong knowledge of HTML, CSS/XHTML, JavaScript/Client-side Scripting, as well as server-side scripting (especially ColdFusion and/or Java Server pages); strong oral and written communication skills, including experience in facilitation, group leadership and documentation.
