Introduction: To effectively plan for changes in technology and
pedagogy for online learning which in many cases is a high risk/high
cost proposition, an organization should draft a comprehensive business
plan. E-learning can most easily be defined as Internet enabled learning
that fuses education and technology to facilitate the acquisition of
knowledge. For the purposes of our book we are limiting the definition
of E-learning to include commercial and educational websites that
deliver e-learning content to individuals in an academic or business
setting such as the Resource Discovery Networkhttp://www.rdn.ac.uk/ ,
Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching
(MERLOT) http://www.merlot.org <http://www.merlot.org/> and the
Community of Learning Program for the Southeast Florida Information
Network (SEFLIN) http://clp.mylibraryservice.org/ . Each chapter of the
book will highlight an organizations? experience with developing
strategic business plans specifically for the management of e-learning
products.

The Overall Objective of the Book : The proposed book aims to provide a
comprehensive view on how to develop non-profit business plans for both
small and large scale e-learning projects. The national and
international case studies will cover many facets of a typical non
profit business plan and relevant experiences while developing the
project.

The Target Audience : This book will be useful to professionals,
non-profit organizations and academic researchers who are currently
considering working on large scale e-learning or high cost/high risk
projects. Moreover, it will serve as a resource for students working on
relevant projects.

Topics of E-learning may focus on, but are not restricted to:

? Business Plan 101: Steps for Non Profit Organizations

? Vision/Planning: Planning for technology: challenges and pitfalls

? Personnel: Managing personnel in an e-learning environment

? Positioning/Marketing: Developing an unique selling point

? Collaboration: National and international partnerships for
e-learning

? Evaluation: Design, usability and navigation of e-learning products

? Financial Feasibility: How to determine if your large scale
project will produce results

Submission Procedure: Researchers and practitioners are invited to
send 2-3 pages on or before August 20th 2004 detailing the background,
motivations and structure of the proposed chapter. All chapter
proposals will be competitively reviewed. Authors of the accepted
