The Association of Research Libraries is pleased to offer the Online
Lyceum course Library Fund Development. This course provides you with a
basic understanding of library fund development and the individual's
role in it by encouraging you to examine fundraising in the context of
your own library organization. Through this course, we help you start
finding answers to development questions such as: "How do you approach a
donor?", "Are there any 'magic words' you can say to get what you
want?", and "Who's who on campus and in the community?" The concepts
introduced in this course come alive as you consider how they play
out--or don't play out--in your everyday environment.
In this course you will interact with colleagues and the course
facilitator through weekly, real-time chat sessions and via an
asynchronous discussion board. In addition, you get facilitator feedback
on their work in the course via the submission of assignments to their
course journals. Please keep in mind that several of the activities and
assignments involve interviewing your library director and/or a
development professional.
Target Audience
Library leaders and others interested in learning more about what it
takes to engage in successful fund-development activities should take
Library Fund Development. This course is not intended for experienced
library development officers.
Instructor
Janice Simmons-Welburn, Associate Dean, University of Arizona Library
and ARL/OLMS Adjunct Faculty
