POSITION: Library Web-Site Manager
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: B.S./B.A. degree
Experience: At least three years working experience in maintaining and
developing web-related applications in Active Server Pages (ASP) using
VBScript and relational databases. Experience must include maintaining
existing and creating new applications, database programming, multimedia
development and web editing. Must be able to demonstrate understanding
of effective web interface design, have an awareness of current issues
regarding navigation, usability and ADA-compliant accessibility. Must
demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written
and oral); ability to organize work, supervise students and work well
under pressure. The applicant must be able to work independently with
minimal supervision, able to learn quickly, organize time and manage
multiple projects effectively as well as work in a team and
collaborative environment.
Applicant must have significant experience in the following: XML, HTML,
database design, server-side VBScript, client-side JavaScript, Perl,
PHP, MySQL backend, SQL Server, MS Office applications (particularly
FrontPage, Word, Excel and Access). Experience using CSS for
presentation and for layout. Applicant must have experience working with
both Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) and Apache. Applicant
must be familiar with Windows 2000 server (or Windows Server 2003).
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to applicants who have worked in an academic
library environment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Must be familiar with all Internet protocols and web-based
authentication methods and proxy servers (preferably Ezproxy) in order
to manage the site and maintain a high level of security for various
databases and websites.
Must be an avid grammar and spelling enthusiast as well as being a good
typist and editor.
Very strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
are required.
Close attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
Experience using Photoshop to produce graphics
Familiarity with metadata standards such as Dublin Core and EAD.
Must be a self-directed individual who can determine work assignments
based on a set of established practices.
Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues as well as with faculty,
staff and students in a busy, changing environment is essential.
Strong graphic design ability
Duties:
The Library Website Manager will be responsible for:
Concept design and content delivery ideas.
Developing design and navigation guidelines for the site.
Maintaining existing and developing new applications for end-users and
staff.
Developing interfaces for digital collections content.
Setting competencies and standards of web excellence for library staff
who build and maintain web pages and training staff as needed.
Assisting staff with migration of subject content from personal pages
to
the main site.
Conducting usability studies for the site and web based services.
Participating in web opac design work and deployment as well as other
interfaces such as Hyperion Digital Media Archive and ILLiad
Interlibrary Loan System.
Ensuring appropriate web site ADA compliance.
Recommending new approaches, applications, and services.
Participating in campus portal development projects on behalf of the
Library.
Supervise one graduate and one undergraduate student assistant.
The Library Website Manager will work together with the various
departments and individuals responsible for Library Web content, and
work together with the Library Systems department. The person in this
position is responsible for writing and maintaining code, as well as the
creation of databases and interfaces, automated tools, and custom
graphics.
The Library Website Manager reports to the Administrator of Systems who
is responsible for the Library Systems Department.
SALARY: $35,000 - $37,000, commensurate with qualifications and
experience
