Embarrassed plea for Dreamweaver help

Greetings, all -

I was hoping to throw myself on the group's mercy and beg for anyone who 
has 1) experience dealing with layers in Dreamweaver (I'm using MX), 2) 
the inclination to assist in what may be a very obvious problem, and 3) 
the time to offer said assistance.

If you exist out there, would you please contact me off-list?  I've been 
beating my head on my desk for two days, and I still can't make this silly 
thing work.
