I've been a subscriber to Web4Lib since its inception and it has impacted
me on both a practical and a theoretical level. GREATLY. Anytime I have
a question I know I can pose it to this list. Anytime I need to debug a
process or locate excellent references to improving my 404 page for
example, I know I can turn to Web4Lib, it's archives, and the greater
sunsite web.
Even more powerful to me, though--Web4Lib is my source for required
professional reading. When I graduated from library school in 1987 and
took my first academic job I checked the boxes on the routing slip at my
first university, noting those journals I wanted routed to me. Today
those journals rarely make it to my office. I already get Information
Technology and Libraries at home, and between handling both systems and
electronic resources in my current position I simply have little time for
scholarly reading (whatever that is). Between citations, bibliographies,
pointers to URLs, references to case studies...whatever...Web4Lib is my
web manager's lifeline. It is the one avenue I can always trust in this
Brave New World.
Even if it IS run by an old riverrunner extraordinaire, Seldom Seen
Tennant.
