The Access 2002 Conference is coming up on Oct. 21 to 23 in Windsor,
Ontario. Access is a single stream conference that has been in existence
for several years and is one of the premier technical conferences for
libraries. The theme for this year's conference is "Delivering the
Promise", focusing on using technology to benefit and empower the
communities that libraries serve. Each day is divided into sub-themes and
the conference features more than 20 leading-edge presentations, as well as
daily Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) sessions and a collaborative Hackfest. There
will also be pre-conference sessions on GIS and using Zope/MySQL for
library services.
The keynote speaker for Access 2002 is Dr. Hal Berghel, recipient of
numerous computing awards and Fellow of both the ACM and the IEEE. Dr.
Berghel is well known for his writings on Digital Libraries and his popular
"Digital Village" columns in the Communications of the ACM (CACM). He will
address a topic he has tackled in one of his CACM columns entitled "The
Cost of Having Analog Executives in a Digital World". If you are a
technology decision maker or are responsible for dealing with the
consequences of technological directions adopted by your library, this will
be an opportunity to hear one of the world's foremost technical minds give
his thoughts on the importance of accurate technology forecasting, and the
need for technical skills to ensure the future of information
organizations.
Other speakers on the program include such familiar names as Clifford
Lynch, Dan Chudnov, Eric Lease Morgan, Jenny Levine, and Thomas Dowling,
plus all of the fabulous social and networking opportunities that Access is
renowned for! To see the complete program, make suggestions for the
Hackfest, or just learn more about Access, please visit the conference web
site at:

and just across the river from Detroit.
