Local Instant Messaging?

I saw a story this morning that AOL will be selling an "enterprise" 
version of AIM which could be used to limit IM internally to an 
organization.  Is there any other way to limit IM in this way.  Say, for 
example, I wanted to limit IM to our campus for Reference purposes?
