Dear Web4lib Members,
Want to learn more about XML, a 21st century tool for creating and managing
digital library collections and services?
It's not too late to join Nylink on November 15th, 2002 in Albany, NY for
the LITA Regional Institute: XML and Libraries. We still have some room, and
we'd love to see you there....
This one-day Regional Institute from the Library and Information Technology
Association (LITA) <http://www.lita.org> , a division of the American
Library Association <http://www.ala.org> , will cover the structure and
utility of Extensible Markup Language (XML) with an emphasis on the
relevance of XML to libraries. We will discuss the role XML plays in diverse
applications such as web design, content management, and descriptive
metadata.
An attendee can expect to come away from this workshop able to construct
valid XML documents and also with some understanding of why this would be
useful, and of how XML is currently being made use of in libraries.
Ron Gilmour, Science & Technology Coordinator at the John C. Hodges Library
at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, will present this institute.
This workshop is especially productive for library webmasters and systems
librarians, but would be useful to anyone who is interested in web
technology, data representation, or who wants to know what XML is all about.
For more information and to register, visit
http://nylink.suny.edu/litaxml.htm <http://nylink.suny.edu/litaxml.htm> .
Please register no later than November 7th.
LITA Regional Institutes are one-day workshops on technology-related topics.
Taught by experts and presented throughout the country, they reach beyond
ALA Conference locations to bring you high quality continuing education.
Previous Nylink-sponsored LITA Regional Institutes have been very well
attended and received. Nylink is a not-for-profit membership organization
for all types of libraries and information organizations throughout New York
State and surrounding areas.
We hope to see you there!
Thanks, Jane
