YOU’RE INVITED TO APPLY: The Marin County Human Resources
Department and the Marin County Library Department are announcing a
recruitment for the position of Administrative Librarian for Outreach
and Systems Services. The eligible list established from this
recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and any future
vacancies that may occur. Eligible lists remain active for a minimum of
six (6) months.
TENTATIVE EXAM SCHEDULE: Depending on the number of qualified
candidates, a supplemental application screening may be used to
determine which candidates will be invited to the Oral Interview
Examination.
ORAL INTERVIEW EXAMINATION: May 9, 2002
(Tentative Hiring Interview Date by Library Department: May 23, 2002)
DUTIES: Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Manages the on-going development of technology services, including
electronic databases and web development;
- Chairs the departmental technology team and is the department
representative on the County e-gov team;
- Facilitates and act as the administrative liaison for system-wide
committees including Reference, Children’s and Circulation Committees;
- Coordinates and oversees the development of programs for the on-going
training and education of staff;
- Develops, coordinates and integrates outreach services, training
programs, technology development and special committee work with all
branch facilities, conferring with branch managers to identify their
individual and community needs;
- Develops community contacts and acts as liaison and representative of
the library before various public and private organizations;
- Recommends selection of staff and provides for staff training and
professional development; evaluates operations and staff activities,
recommends improvements and provides for disciplinary action as required;
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Equivalent to possession of a Master’s degree
in an appropriate library curriculum from an ALA college or university
and four years of experience as a professional librarian, two of which
were at a supervisory level equivalent to the County’s classes of
Librarian II or Senior Librarian.
Knowledge of:
• Practices, laws, ordinances and policies applicable to public
library services in the State of California.
• Administrative principles and practices, including work planning,
organization, evaluation and supervision of staff directly and through
subordinate levels of supervision.
• Principals of staff development and effective training techniques.
• Current automated technology related to the provision of library
services.
Skill in:
• Coordinating and administering programs with regional or
County-wide impact.
• Analyzing community needs and developing, implementing and
maintaining effective programs and community relations for those
communities served.
• Using automated technology effectively and making recommendations
for additional uses and the upgrading of such technology.
• Working as an effective member of the management team.
• Representing the County effectively in meetings with a variety of
public and private organization.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Occasional evenings and weekends.
LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license or
proof of an equivalent means of travel, if reasonable accommodation is
requested.
