We also did the big MARCIVE record dump in January and on our first link
check afterwards, found approx 3,000 broken links. A few hundred are PURLs,
but most are regular URLs. Many of them are old and rather worthless (NEA
Grant guidelines from 1996). I was hoping for better quality from a pay
service.
We are gradually working our way through the broken links, although it will
be a project covering many months. As for correcting GPO PURLs, you can
report the bad PURLs through askLPS if you are a depository. They usually
have them corrected in a week or so (and I don't even find the correct site,
I just report them as broken). The catch right now is not to report Dept of
Interior sites!

GPO uses PURLs, so they're pretty stable. We dumped 16000+ into our WebPAC
using MARCIVE's Documents Without Shelves service, which seem like a very
good bargain. The monthly service seems to average about 200 changed
records, which overlay existing records.
