Joyce,

I had a similar problem at home recently, which turned out the be the cable.
Most likely this is a problem with the BIOS settings on the machine...they
are either outdated, or misconfigured.  Most BIOS's (?) are fairly easy to
configure for things like floppy drives, so I would be glad to review your
settings if you wish.  Feel free to contact me off-list.
