Here is a good, easy tutorial by Lincoln Stein (of CGI.pm fame).

Subject: [WEB4LIB] log file rotation

Does anyone out there have experience with log file rotation? We have not
been rotating ours and as you might guess both our access_log and
error_log are getting pretty huge. I can find some information on the
web, but would like to feel confident that I am doing it correctly so I
don't lose the prior logs. What I would like to do is to have a new log
file starting at midnight of each day and keep the old log files
indefinitely for right now, until we figure out how long we want to keep
them, storage methods, etc.

I would appreciate any assistance you can offer. We are running Apache on
a Sun Solaris.

Thanks,

Elizabeth
