There's some discussion about how this works (and how it should work) at <http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117857>. The gist of the discussion is that the developers will be happy with either behavior, *as long as there remains a way for the user to get the href's URL.*
Heck - I have disagreement just in the 2 hemispheres of my own brain. :)
Many times I have been annoyed not to be able to see the actual link in the status window of a site I have been visiting. Nonetheless, we use the onmouseover event to try to display the ultimate destination to the user. I would ove to see a way to provide both pieces of information - perhaps the status bar and a hovering 'tool tip' type text box. But the existing mechanism is certainly open to abuse, so i have no real problem with browsers changing this behavior. I just wanted to make sure I had not made any serious coding mistakes. Thanks!
