You have 12 computers used just for Public Internet access. They are
all about 3 years old, PII 64mb Ram.

IF you could build something to provide a constant level of performance
what would you suggest.

Lin,

Depending on your level of expertise with all things Linux, I would humbly suggest looking into the Linux Terminal Server Project [ http://www.ltsp.org ].

If the network cards are compatible with etherboot, this setup would allow you to continue to use these old machines indefinitely, provide the security features inherent in Linux and allow you to easily maintain and reconfigure these machines as necessary. If you have a server available (or the funds to purchase a decent one) and have a switched internal network, this would probably provide more than acceptable performance for years to come.

HTH,
David
