Senior Internet Developer/Project Manager (100% Career)
Library, Hiring Salary Range: $3,991.67 - 5,525.00

The UCSD Libraries is has opened recruitment for a Senior Internet
Developer/Project Manager, an exciting and challenging new position
on the Software Engineering Department development team. This team
manages the main UCSD Web site as well as the library Web
infrastructure.
As one of the top 100 research libraries in the world, the UCSD
Libraries are
developing the in-house talent to design and build tomorrow's digital
library.
An opportunity to work on various current and future projects including
completing the migration from static Web sites to dynamic, data-driven
websites,
building a robust and fault-tolerant server infrastructure using
clustering and Java
server environments, working on large. collaborative digital library
projects,
managing and sub setting large datasets, and integrating software
engineering
principles into our development cycle.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to write, debug and fix program code.
Ability to program in one or more of the following languages: Java,
Perl,
JavaScript, SQL, and HTML.
Ability to learn other languages as needed.
Extensive knowledge of computer systems analysis methods,
troubleshooting
applications and systems, and general systems-level debugging methods.
Detailed understanding of Web server protocols including http, cgi,
server-side
parsing and directives, servlets, and advanced server features.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience supervising technical staff.
Strong customer service experience and values.
Software engineering experience, including software testing and
integration, version control
systems, and development/distribution methodologies.
Project management skills for software projects.
Experience managing a team of programmers.
Experience with digital library projects, issues and technologies,
including XML, SGML and metadata.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in a technical or scientific discipline (computer
science, engineering,
math or physics).
Knowledge of SQL, and knowledge and experience in database development.
Flexibility to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with
rapidly shifting
and often contradictory demands and priorities.
Library experience a plus.
