ACCESSIBLE WEB DESIGN: TIPS AND TECHNIQUES
ARL/OLMS Online Lyceum Course
March 11-April 19, 2002
The Association of Research Libraries, in partnership with the University
of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries, is pleased to offer Accessible Web Design
via the Online Lyceum. This course addresses the broad range of complex
issues associated with creating and maintaining a well designed and
accessible website. Accessible Web Design delivers a comprehensive
overview of how to design an effective website in adherence with the World
Wide Web Consortiums (W3C) accessibility standards.
During this course you will:
* Identify your sites target audience and the content you want to deliver
* Develop an effective navigation system and well-conceived presentation
style for your site
* Think critically about accessible web design principles and resources,
and identify how you will incorporate these into your websites design
* Become familiar with copyright issues and resources as they relate to
the Web
* Become aware of issues related to graphics and the Web
* Develop a working familiarity with Dreamweavers interface and a basic
understanding of it as a web-authoring and site management tool
* Develop a working familiarity with Fireworks and its image- and
button-creation tools and export features.
Target Audience
The intended audience is producers of web-based content who are concerned
with creating flexible and scalable websites that meet the World Wide Web
Consortium accessibility guidelines. Both novice and expert developers
have benefited from this course.
