SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN (new position).
Scarborough-Phillips Library
St. Edward's University

Scarborough-Phillips Library seeks an energetic, service-oriented librarian
to provide leadership in library computing technology applications for
existing services and new initiatives including review of the adequacy of
our current integrated library system.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating library technology
applications, including the SIRSI library system, library network
environment, and software and hardware support. Will coordinate technology
issues for the Scarborough-Phillips Library and supervise student
assistants. Serves as liaison to the university's Information Technology
division and to technology vendors. Maintains unit goals, priorities and
programs consistent with the University and Library's mission and strategic
initiatives. Maintains awareness of university trends in network
development, administrative information systems development, university
policy, data administration and technology support. Manages system upgrades
and trains staff in the use of automated technologies. Participates in the
library's bibliographic instruction and reference activities, which may
involve evening and weekend work. Reports to the library director and serves
as a member of the library faculty.

QUALIFICATIONS
MLS from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent; at least 2 years of
information technology experience; demonstrated expertise with integrated
library systems, preferably SIRSI; and working knowledge of Windows/ NT and
Unix environments, office application software, and Web server software.
Ability to specify requirements of network servers and routers and network
security. Ability to establish goals and priorities and to work with other
units in meeting mutual goals; strong problem-solving skills, including
flexibility, creativity, and initiative. Ability to effectively communicate
technical issues to colleagues, library patrons, and vendors. Documented
knowledge of LAN and WAN network infrastructure and protocols. Ability to
plan, coordinate activities, and complete projects in collaboration with
technical and non-technical staff. Understanding of emerging trends in the
use of information technology. Documented knowledge of data communications
networks, software applications design, information processing, and computer
architecture. Ability to work in a collaborative environment as part of a
team and with diverse groups, maintaining an environment of mutual respect;
excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written skills; strong
troubleshooting skills.

Documented knowledge of at least one programming/scripting language such as
PERL, HTML, XML, C++, and MySQL; documented knowledge of one or more of the
following: HTTP, HTTPS, MARC, EAD, and XML and TCP/IP related protocols
preferred; experience with configuration and management of operations that
involve Web development, PERL, JAVA, UNIX and SQL in a heterogeneous
computer environment (Linux, UNIX, Windows) preferred; proven leadership
ability within a library setting; experience in internet based delivery and
presentation of resources/services experience in an academic environment;
demonstrated success in introducing new technologies with a commitment to
client services participation in requirements studies and development and
evaluation of request for proposals for system migration purposes.

SALARY AND RANK
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is an eleven (11)
month faculty appointment at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level.
