Profit isn't bad in and of itself but it is inadequate as a basis for
moral, political, and social decisions.  The easy assumption far too often
is that what is good for business is good for us.  See E.F.Schumacher on
Keynsian economics in "Small is Beautiful: Economics As If People
Mattered".  Or see Jerry Mander on profit motive in "The Absense of the
Sacred".
