Please excuse cross-postings.

Dear Colleague,

Two articles on managing electronic subscription databases are available in
the latest issue of _OCLC Systems & Services_ journal.

The first article is written by Laura Pope Robbins, a Reference
Librarian/Instructor at Dowling College, Oakdale, NY. It is entitled
"Creating an Integrated Periodicals Listing Using Microsoft Access and ASP
Scripts." Although there are several articles dealing with managing
e-journal collections with Microsoft (MS) Access database software and ASP
(Active Server page) scripts, Laura took a different approach. Unlike
others who use relational tables as bases to generate dynamic Web content,
she uses simple union queries instead. She also demonstrates how she
integrated Web access to periodicals into her library's Innovative-based
OPAC.

The second article is written by Weiling Liu and Fannie Cox. Weiling is the
Director of Libraries Technology at the University of Louisville, KY and
Fannie is an Electronic Resources Coordinator. Their article is entitled
"Tracking the Use of e-Journals: A Technique Collaboratively Developed by
the Cataloging Department and the Office of Libraries Technology at the
University of Louisville." Although some e-journal publishers do provide
libraries with usage reports, a majority of them still have not done so and
the ones that do not give sufficient data. This article presents how the
cataloging department and the library technology office at the University of
Louisville worked together to track and collect e-journal usage data using
shareware. Their libraries use Endeavor Voyager library system.

_OCLC Systems & Services_ is a refereed quarterly publication with an
international audience. It is published by Emerald MCB University Press, a
London-based publisher. This journal's is also concentrated on library
automation and technology. For more information, please visit the journal's
