Second web directory?

Folks,

I have sometimes seen Open Directory Project referred to
as "the Third web directory". So a silly question: I assume
Yahoo! is regarded as the first. But which is the second?
About? Looksmart? WWW Virtual Library? Or is there
som other beast out there I do not know about?
Inquiring mind want to know.
