The California Digital Library (http://www.ucop.edu) is a tenth research 
library for the University of California, complementing the 9 campus 
libraries, whose mission includes building, managing and preserving 
high-quality digital collections, promoting changes in scholarly 
communication, and extending participation in and access to select 
collections to populations external to the University.

Responsibilities: As a member of the Digital Library Services group, the 
incumbent is a major participant in the planning and design of tools and 
services, especially the user interface components, integration of 
collections, and in delivering user services in support of the California 
Digital Library.

Serves as project leader or member of project team consisting of 
programmers, campus librarians or other subject experts and other DLS 
analysts, depending on the nature of the project; performs systems analysis 
of functional requirements and/or usage data; prepares detailed 
specifications for applications programmers for tools and services 
developed in-house; solicits and evaluates input from campus library staff 
and library users for the design and implementation of tools and services 
for the California Digital Library; investigates, tests, and applies new 
technologies that enhance the CDL's services; evaluates functionality and 
integration potential for external resources; prepares or reviews 
recommendations for functional enhancements to licensed external tools and 
services; develops designs for web-based delivery of tools and services; 
tests system changes for quality, consistency, and reliability; advises and 
consults with CDL professional staff and management on various aspects of 
system design and enhancements; prepares recommendations and/or 
specifications for internal management of complex information related to 
tools and services; participates in setting priorities and scheduling the 
introduction of enhancements and new tools and services.

Qualifications: M.L.S. or related masters degree required. Public services 
experience, preferably in an academic library. Significant experience in 
user experience design, including developing functional requirements and 
interface specifications. Significant experience in web production. 
Evidence of creative application of innovative technologies. Project 
management experience with record of successful project completion. 
Demonstrated skill in the use of web-authoring tools, scripting and mark-up 
language. Familiarity with standards applicable to libraries and web-based 
delivery of services. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in digital 
libraries and higher education. Excellent communication and interpersonal 
skills, and the ability to work successfully with faculty, students and 
other library users, library staff, and information technology staff in a 
co-library environment.  Evidence of flexibility and enjoyment of 
collaborative endeavors.
