Many helpful Web4Lib readers rushed to my aid with the information 
that the numeric IP address of the impolite crawler could be traced 
to the Korea Internet Data Center (KIDC). If you don't read Korean, 
see http://www.kidc.net/eng/. I have sent them email and will let you 
know if I hear anything back.

Gary Price responded with a very helpful link to a forum on 
WebmasterWorld.com that deals with identifying spiders. I posted a 
query and will again let you know if I hear anything substantive.
