Eudora, Pegasus, The Bat?  Or, ergh, Outlook Express 6 with a little
attention to security details?

There are plenty of good e-mail programs.  Find one you like and stick
with it.  Keep firing up  Communicator 4 for e-mail if that's your
preference, but don't use it for browsing the web.
