Directory Services etc

I am looking for information, suggestions and comments in the area of
Directory Services and related solutions for authentication, authorisation
and access (in a University environment and for access to online library
resources). In particular I am interested in projects that are being
undertaken in this area and in commercial/open source products that might
offer some solutions (and any opinions on these 'solutions'). While I have a
library focus, don't be shy! Anything of interest welcome.

The list below summarises the results of my current investigations, but I
would be interested in making sure that I have covered the field and hearing
other's opinions.
