SENIOR PROJECT ANALYST

PROVOST AND SR. VP -- ACADEMIC AFFAIRS: Academic Initiatives: Systemwide
Library Planning.
Salary: $43,600 - $61,000 (midpoint)

Essential Information: Full-time contract position, through 12/31/2002.
With substantial support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the
University of California is undertaking a two-year project, commencing
January 1, 2001, with the goal of gaining a better understanding of how the
University can best leverage its ongoing investment in digital library
materials in order to give its ten campuses greater flexibility in managing
their print collections. Additional details about the project are available

Responsibilities: Under the direction of project co-Principal Investigator
and Director of Library Planning and Policy Development, provide primary
professional support for the design, implementation and monitoring of
project procedures and operations, including development of research
design, training of project staff, development and administration of data
collection instruments, data analysis and reporting, and preparation of
project reports. Supervise the Project Data Manager and oversee the
collection and analysis of project data. Design and produce analytical
reports for the use of the project team and advisory committees. Draft
reports and other work products for the use of the project team, advisory
committees, and the project sponsor. Provide professional staff support
for the project team and advisory committees, oversee meeting scheduling
and preparation of agendas and work products.
Qualifications: Substantial experience and demonstrated proficiency in
social science research methods and operations, preferably in areas related
to university or academic library issues. Demonstrated proficiency in
researching, analyzing and interpreting complex issues and preparing
reports that are distributed to a range of audiences, and in quantitative
and statistical analysis of social science data. Excellent interpersonal
skills, with the ability to work cooperatively with all levels of staff,
faculty and management, and to communicate complex concepts and processes
and interpret policies effectively with varied audiences. Ability to meet
both short and long term deadlines and shifting priorities with a minimum
of supervision, and with initiative and imagination. Demonstrated
proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access).
Substantial knowledge of academic library policy and administrative issues
and trends. Experience with academic libraries, experience with providing
analytic and professional staff support to committees and working groups,
and substantial knowledge of academic library policy and administrative
issues and trends are desirable. Preferred: An advanced degree in a social
science, library science, public policy, or related discipline.
