Position:  Systems Manager

The Georgia Institute of Technology Library and Information Center seeks a
creative, service-oriented Systems Manager who will provide overall
administration for the library’s Voyager Integrated Library System and GTEL,
the library’s web-based electronic information system.  The Systems Manager
manages ongoing enhancement and development as well as customer support for
the
library’s mission critical systems, specifies and purchases hardware and
software, supervises five staff members, and coordinates system support
activities with the Networking and Programming Unit to insure smoothly
functioning systems in the library.  In addition, the Systems Manager is
expected to take an active and leading role in the library’s numerous digital
initiatives, including the digital publishing/collection management system and
digital library initiatives involving images, digital audio, digital video and
metadata. The Systems Manager participates in departmental planning with the
Networking and Programming Coordinator and the Assistant Director for Systems
and Technical Services. This position will report to Assistant Director for
Systems and Technical Services.

Environment: The Library & Information Center (www.library.gatech.edu), a
member
of the Association of Research Libraries, is central to the Institute's
instructional and research programs. The Georgia Institute of Technology, with
nearly 20,000 faculty, students, and staff is one of the nation's outstanding
universities, with nationally recognized programs in science and engineering.
The Library is a leader in library automation, participates in the statewide
consortium, Galileo and provides access to an ever-increasing number of
databases electronic books and electronic journals.

Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science or
Information Management; minimum four years of library experience, with two of
those years in a management position; three or more years of experience in
integrated library system support and web management; demonstrated supervisory
skill; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work
independently and in teams; ability to work in a complex and changing
environment; evidence of organizational and analytical skills.  Minimum of
three years HTML experience. Familiarity with Dublin Core.

Preferred: XML experience, Perl, Database design and management, particularly
Oracle and Microsoft Access.  Familiarity with Encoded Archival Description
(EAD)

Salary: Salary is competitive and based on qualifications and experience.  
Librarians are members of the general faculty and are non-tenured.  The
minimum
salary for this position is $50,000.00
