Position: Web Librarian (Search extended)

Where: The Ohio State University Libraries
              1858 Neil Avenue Mall

Available:      Immediately

Responsibilities:  Working as part of the Digital Resources Team, the
Web Librarian coordinates the day-to-day development and maintenance of
The Ohio State University Libraries? web site, which includes providing
access to electronic resources, coordinating content and graphics, and
maintaining site organization and structure.  Provides general support
for web initiatives throughout the library system; serves as
coordinator, trainer and primary support person for decentralized
efforts to create and maintain web pages for library departments, branch
libraries, and subject collections.  Assists with testing, set-up, and
review of digital resources considered for purchase or licensing.
Monitors changing web technologies, investigates new hardware, software,
and training needs, and provides recommendations.  Carries out
new projects, assists in developing guidelines for library supported Web
pages, participates in on-going web usability studies, and identifies
policy, technical, and programmatic needs of the site.  Reports to the
Digital Resources Systems Administrator; maintains a strong liaison role
with the Assistant Director for Technical Services and Collection
Management and the Serials/Electronic Resources Department. Librarians
have faculty status and are expected to meet university requirements for
promotion and tenure, including research, publication, and service.

Qualifications:  Required: Master?s degree from an ALA accredited
program.  Experience in the development and maintenance of web sites.
Understanding of the role of the web in a large research library
setting.  Public services experience, with a strong preference for
candidates familiar with collection management processes.  Skill at
handling multiple responsibilities and projects simultaneously.  Ability
to learn and implement new technologies in a rapidly changing area.
Excellent communication and consensus building skills.  Good working
knowledge of HTML.  Familiarity with web accessibility/usability norms
and guidelines including ADA.  Acquaintance with emerging web
technologies such as XML, EAD, Cascading Style Sheets, and metadata
standards (particularly Dublin Core). Desired - Professional experience
in a large research library.  Experience with UNIX or Linux operating
system, Apache server, local database delivery via the web; knowledge of
various web support tools such as scanners, digital cameras, HTML
editors, graphics software, and web management applications.  Experience
in training others on the use of various software and web design
techniques.  Some knowledge of web scripting languages (such as perl,
php, ASP, or JavaScript) and/or web application servers (such as
ColdFusion).  Commitment to professional growth and active involvement
in professional activities.

Salary and Rank: $35,400 minimum.  Faculty-rank (tenure track) and
salary dependent upon experience and qualifications.  This position has
faculty status with accompanying University expectations and
requirements for tenure and promotions, which include research,
publication and service.

Benefits:  22 days vacation. 15 days sick leave, 10 holidays.

long-term disability insurance; life insurance at 2 ½ times one?s annual
salary.  State and alternative retirement systems available.
