Hell! I even remember xmosaic which I installed on my unix box in
early 1993. Later that year (November) Mosaic for Windows and MacOS
were released and the whole web took off.

When Andreeson and his crew jumped from NCSA to found Netscape I
worried that the days of a free browser might go. Now I'm going to be
happy to pay for a lean fast browser that works in the form of iCab
http://www.icab.de/ or Opera http://www.opera.com/ (once they are out
of testing) rather than putting up with the huge and ponderous NS and
IE, even if free.

As it is, my default browser for an initial look at a page, is text
only. I only use these other browsers if they show evidence that
there are images, or software in them which actually convey meaning.
Mostly they don't.
