POSITION VACANCY

WEB DEVELOPMENT AND REFERENCE LIBRARIAN

Fairfield University seeks creative facilitator to administer and supervise
all aspects of the Library's Web presence and to provide leadership in its
enhancement. The Web Development Librarian will create and assist colleagues
in creating highly usable and aesthetically pleasing instructional and
informational content for Library Web pages. 

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include chairing the Library Web Committee and setting
up an instant messaging reference service, as well as keeping abreast of new
Web and other electronic developments that may prove useful in the
fulfillment of the Library's mission. The Web Development Librarian will be
a member of the Reference staff, assisting in providing reference desk
coverage and library instruction.   

Qualifications: Required 
ALA-accredited MLS; one or more year's professional library experience;
demonstrated ability to code and create Web pages; familiarity with HTML
4.0; knowledge of trends and issues in library use of Web technologies
including electronic reference service; demonstrated effective written and
oral communication skills; ability to work cooperatively in a team
environment.  

Preferred qualifications:
A subject masters' degree is highly desirable, as is knowledge of XML, CSS,
DreamWeaver and UltraDev, and experience with assessment of library
services.

Fairfield University is a highly selective, independent, small comprehensive
university with over 200 full time faculty, 3,000 full time undergraduate
students, and 2,400 part time continuing education and graduate students in
six schools. The University was founded by the Jesuits in 1942. Located in a
suburb 50 miles outside of New York City, the 225-acre park-like campus
overlooks Long Island Sound. DiMenna-Nyselius Library has 300,000 volumes, a
newly expanded and renovated building, an integrated automated system (DRA),
and fiber optic connectivity to the campus mainframe.
