Steenbock Library, University of Wisconsin-Madison, is looking for an 
energetic and technology-savvy early career librarian to join its 
Information Services Team.  Steenbock is one of the top agricultural and 
life sciences libraries in the U.S.  Subject areas include agriculture, 
life sciences, veterinary medicine, and human ecology.  It is part of a 
great library system at a great university in a great city.  Exciting new 
initiatives on our campus include virtual reference, desktop article 
delivery, digital library projects, campus portal project with a library 
component, national agricultural gateway project, web-based instruction and 
tutorials, expanded outreach programs for specific user groups, integration 
of library service/resources into distance education initiatives, and 
collaboration with faculty.  This librarian will help us envision the 
future of our library and move towards it.  This is a 100% academic staff 
appointment.  Benefits include 22 vacation days, sick leave, group health 
and life insurance and state retirement plan.  Minimum full-time salary is 
$35,260.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Required:  Master's degree in Library/Information Science 
from an ALA-accredited institution and a minimum of 2 years professional 
experience in a library; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal 
communications skills; Desired:  3-4 years of professional experience in an 
academic or special library; work experience in a science library or a 
science background;  demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills; 
experience with project planning, implementation and 
evaluation;  experience in new initiatives such as digital, gateway, or 
portal projects mentioned above; demonstrated management and supervisory 
skills; experience in course-related library instruction;  experience in 
developing web-based instruction and delivery of library services and 
resources; experience with HTML mark-up, Voyager and Dreamweaver software.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Participate in a full range of information services 
including reference, instruction, materials selection, liaison with 
academic departments, and development of web-based services.  Provide 
electronic and in-library reference services.  Conduct course-related 
library instruction and design web-based instructional materials.  Work 
independently and also as a member of a team of information 
specialists.  Be flexible, able to adapt to a changing library environment, 
and work on new initiatives and service areas.   Knowledgeable of 
electronic and print resources and be able to utilize emerging technologies 
to meet the informational needs of a diverse clientele.
