Head Reference Librarian
The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA)

The University of Texas-Pan American Library seeks a dynamic reference
librarian who will provide information services to students and faculty. 

Responsibilities: Duties include coordinating and supervising all the
activities of the Reference Department. Provide reference assistance at
Reference Desk, with some evenings and weekends; conduct library
instruction sessions and general tours; assist Patrons with various
electronic reference products and search the Internet; select library
materials for several subject areas including Reference; serve as a library
liaison for departments in those areas. Write policy and procedures for
Reference Department, conduct meetings for Reference staff and write
Reference Schedules. 

Requirements: MLS degree from an ALA accredited institution; minimum of 2-3
years recent experience in an academic Reference Services area; knowledge
of reference sources including electronic and web-based resources;
effective oral and written communication skills; ability to work
successfully with colleagues and staff; ability to teach effectively; and
supervisory experience. 

Preferred: a second master's degree; knowledge of DRA; two or more years of
instructional work in an automated academic library. 

Position: permanent non-tenured administrative staff position. Reports to
Assistant Library Director for Research Services. Open until filled. Salary
$38,000-42,000, depending on qualifications.
