Web Sites Coordinator
Institute of Paper Science and Technology
(A research affiliate of the Georgia Institute of Technology)
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager, Haselton Library and Knowledge Center, the Web
Sites Coordinator develops, manages, and coordinates the IPST Web sites
with regard to their content, information architecture, design, and overall
functionality. The IPST Web sites include an intranet, public Web site,
and Member Channel (an extranet).
Interact with content developers regarding their need to convert content
into Web-accessible formats, including HTML, PDF and other image
formats. Perform HTML content formatting. Apply metadata and taxonomies to
enhance the information retrieval and searching efficiency of the IPST Web
sites.
Works in close partnership with the Digital Library Coordinator to develop
best practices in front-end programming, information architecture, content
management work processes, and design.
Works with IPST Editorial Services in the editorial review of Web sites
content. Interacts with the Director of Institute Development, who is
responsible for marketing IPST programs and services and promoting IPST's
public image, to achieve Web site design that maximizes customer attraction
and successfully promotes IPST's products and services.
Works closely with the IPST Information Technology Department in
application development, systems administration, and other IT
Department-related responsibilities. Monitors and implements appropriate
changes in Web technology. Works together with the Manager, Library and
Knowledge Center to manage any outsourced projects regarding Web site
design, programming and content development work. Also assists the Manager
with improving and maintaining approaches to tracking and analyzing the use
of the IPST Web sites. Supervises the Web Sites Specialist.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in computer science, library/information science,
information design, or a field appropriate to the development of Web sites.
A minimum of two years of relevant experience.
Considerable experience with advanced HTML. Project management & leadership
skills. Knowledge of principles in emerging information-related disciplines
such as content management and information architecture. Knowledge and
experience with Web design, metadata and taxonomy applications, Web
accessibility/usability guidelines and testing. Well developed skills in
translating customer needs into Web functions a plus. Technical skills
being sought include some combination of graphic design, CSS, JavaScript,
XHTML, CGI scripting, Perl, XML/SGML, Java, UNIX, SQL database
programming. Experience in building database-backed dynamic Web sites
preferred.
