GOVERNMENT PUBLICATIONS & INFORMATION SERVICES LIBRARIAN (NEW POSITION)
RANK:
Instructor.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate technical and public services of the U.S. Federal Depository
Government Publications Collection of 207,000 items, including print,
microform, and electronic formats. Work toward Library goals of adding
government publications to online catalog and automating processing
procedures. Develop federal CD-ROM collection and World Wide Web pages.
Supervise highly experienced paraprofessional and student assistant. Staff
general Information Desk, including evening and weekend hours, assisting and
instructing users in obtaining information. Provide library instruction in
all areas and staff training in government sources. Assist in the
development of the reference and other collections. Opportunities for a
wide variety of activities in an electronic environment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
An ALA-accredited master's degree. Minimum of one year professional,
post-M.L.S. experience in government publications in an academic depository
library. Demonstrated knowledge of federal government publications,
CD-ROMs, World Wide Web site development, electronic library systems, and
reference. Friendly, open manner with library users and ability to work
harmoniously with University faculty and cooperatively with other Library
faculty and staff. Effective interpersonal and communications skills.
Versatility, flexibility, and initiative. Well-rounded general education
and range of experiences. Commitment to professional development and
professional service.
BENEFICIAL TO POSITION:
Professional-level reference and/or instruction experience in an academic
library. Experience with CD-ROM management and web site development.
Experience with planning, managing, and evaluating major projects such as
conversion to an automated catalog.
APPOINTMENT:
Position is tenure track with faculty status and rank. Librarians are
expected to meet tenure and promotion requirements of the Library faculty.
Appointment at Instructor rank. Conditions: 12 month contract with 24 days
annual leave, 12 paid holidays, and 12 sick days. Minimum salary $29,500.
Retirement is paid by the state; participation may be in state retirement
system or TIAA. State pays 80% of health insurance.
COMMUNITY:
The Library has been a federal depository since 1945 and selects 30% of
items available. Austin Peay State University is a state-supported
institution within the Tennessee Board of Regents System and has been
designated the liberal arts university of the System. The University has
approximately 5,800 FTE students and 320 faculty. Clarksville, Tennessee,
has a population of 99,000 and is located 45 miles northwest of Nashville on
Interstate 24. APSU is an EEO/AA Employer.
