PINES Help Desk and Customer Information Services Manager
The Office of Public Library Services, a unit of the Board of Regents of the
University System of Georgia, is seeking a dynamic, customer
service-oriented person to manage the Help Desk of Georgia Library Public
Information Network for Electronic Services (PINES), as well as customer
information services for PINES member libraries. As of the end of Phase II
of PINES (August 2001), 217 public library facilities across Georgia will be
part of the centralized integrated library system (SIRSI Unicorn) that is at
the heart of PINES. The Help Desk and Customer Information Services
Manager will proactively assist PINES libraries with technical, access,
training, and other issues, using a variety of communication methods,
including electronic formats, telephone, training workshops, and on-site
assistance.
Minimum Qualifications: Strong customer service orientation required. At
least two years of customer service management experience, including
experience working with public libraries in a customer service setting.
Experience with administration and/or support of an integrated library
system, including in-depth configuration, administration, trouble-shooting,
and user instruction. Experience with classroom-based and informal
technology teaching/training, including development of curriculum and
materials. In-depth understanding of library technology and user access
issues, as well as the ability to effectively communicate across varied
settings. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Library or Information Science
from an ALA-accredited institution, and/or four years of relevant experience
in library customer services. Experience in the operation and/or management
of a Help Desk. Experience with SIRSI Corporation's Workflows and WebCat
library interfaces. Basic knowledge of UNIX. Basic knowledge of SUN
Solaris.
Salary: From $42,000, dependent on qualifications and experience. Strong
benefits package.
