Registering a .edu Domain

I'm trying to help someone register a .edu domain name. I can find all kinds
of information on how to register .com, .net, .org, and .everythingelse
domain names, but I've drawn a blank when it comes to .edu domain names.
Anybody have any experience on how to register a .edu domain name?
