Hi all -
Forwarded from the patron who was converting adobe acrobat -> ASCII,
a thank you and comments on a couple of the suggestions. And thanks
from me as well! I continue to be impressed by the knowledge and
helpfulness on this list.
FORWARDED MESSAGE:
Please extend my gratitude to those who responded to your inquiry, as
well.
Here's a bit of news I'm offering in case people with whom you're in
contact are looking for follow-up.
XPDF will run from DOS but requires a file I need to find on the
internet. I've also received some cautions about using XPDF in
Windows 98.
Kurzweil 1000 has been acquired by a company which may or may not be
interested in furthering its development. The U.S. Dept. of Education
recommended Kurzweil over the full Adobe Acrobat purchase, saying that
although Kurzweil was far more expensive, it had a greater range of
capabilities.
Adobe Accessibility Sites are simply not trustworthy. In any case
whatever they tell a visually impaired user, it does not mean they are
not intent on getting their money.
I will try Ghost View later today and let you know what happens.
In terms of what Kurzweil sub products I can download into my system I
will visit the various recommended sites over the next couple of days.
The Department of Education was very slippery about what is actually
expected in the wording of the Rehabilitation Act Section 508, and
what
kinds of "force" can be applied to a private corporation.
