Library Open Source Conference

The Meadville Public Library is presenting a conference on the use
of open source software in libraries on Friday, September 14, 2001
at the Library's Helene Barco Duratz Cultural Center in Meadville, PA,
and in the eastern part of the state on Thursday, October 4, 2001 at
the offices of the York County Library System in York, PA.

The purpose of the conference is to discuss what open source software
is and how it can be used in libraries.  The program will also feature
demonstrations of open source software in use in a library setting,
including the Linux and OpenBSD operating systems and various types of
software, such as TCP/IP routers, proxy servers, Internet firewalls,
filtering software, backup software, web servers, email servers,
circulation software, and a network of thin client workstations customized
for Web browsing.  Participants will also learn where to get the software
and how to get further training.

The event is open to technology coordinators for libraries, districts or
library systems, and anyone else interested in obtaining quality computer
solutions for their library at low cost.

Cost of registration is $60 per person, which includes morning refreshments
