I'm currently using Access 2000 to create a lexical archive, much like a
dictionary of sorts. I am using the Developer's Edition of Office 2000 which
I chose because I am able to create a standalone Access application that
users can install on their windows machines without having the Access
application. According to the documentation it is scalable (in a sense) by
using the "upsizing wizard" which converts an Access database (.mdb) to a
client/server application. It promises to create an equivalent database on
SQL server while maintaining all the objects in the original database. I
haven't got to this point yet (I am in library school and this is an
independent study project), but if I get there, I'll post some results.
