Being a NY state resident and a public library user from time to time, the
users at Jerry's library and a few other library systems around the state
are getting remote access. However, I would bet that the majority of NY
state residents do not have remote access. I know of many rural public
libraries that simply do not have the technology or the technical know how
to set up remote access. It is also important to note that the database
project is currently funded by very soft money from federal grants such as
LSTA. From what I understand the state has yet to put up any money for
this project. Remote access has got to be part of such a project. This
type of project has also got to have permanent funding from state funds.
