The problem, as I see it, is that the proprietary site management functions
(themes, navigation, etc) tie you to a single GUI HTML editor, perhaps also
operating system and web server. CSS or XSL are standards-based,
editor-independent ways to accomplish the same ends. If your software of
choice ceases to be marketed, falls out of the campus/library site license
plans, etc, you will have many headaches to reproduce the desired effects in
another proprietary format, or converting the code to achieve the
functionality through CSS/XSL.
