> POSITION:
> Access Services/Instruction Librarian at California State University,
> Fullerton.
> Library Faculty Appointment. Full-time tenure-track position.
>
> DUTIES:
> Serve as head of the Access Services Unit, managing unit operations with
> support from librarians and paraprofessionals directly responsible for
> Interlibrary Loan, Periodical Services, Audiovisual and Curriculum
> Materials Center and Special Collections. May include Circulation.
> Directly supervise 2-3 F/T Library Assistants. Coordinate all aspects of
> document delivery, including interlibrary loan to enhance electronic
> access to full-text information. Serve as copyright compliance specialist
> providing assistance and instruction in fair use of library materials.
> Participate in the Library's extensive instruction program, including
> planning, teaching and assessing library sessions for CSUF classes and
> workshops on basic and specialized resources, featuring electronic
> resources. Serve on one or more instruction teams. Provide reference and
> research assistance to CSUF students, faculty, staff, and the community at
> the reference desk and in the electronic resources area. Create and
> maintain informational and/or instructionally related Web pages. May serve
> as subject consultant to academic departments with responsibilities for
> instruction and/or collection development activities. Serve on the
> University Librarian's Council, department, and library and university
> committees.

> REQUIREMENTS:
> Master's degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-
> accredited institution or equivalent. Three years of professional
> experience in access or public services areas. Knowledge of current trends
> in document delivery and electronic access to information. Strong working
> knowledge of at least one integrated library system. Demonstrated
> commitment to quality customer service. Effective training/teaching skills
> in group and one-on-one settings. Current experience in the use of
> computerized general reference resources, such as Expanded Academic,
> Lexis/Nexis, FirstSearch and SilverPlatter interfaces, Web browsers, and
> search engines. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability
> and willingness to work in a team environment. Ability to interact
> effectively in a multi-cultural environment with co-workers, library
> users, and the wider campus community. Availability to work some
> weeknights and/or weekends. Librarians at CSUF have faculty status and
> are expected to meet promotion and tenure requirements, including
> professional and scholarly activities.

> PREFERRED/DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
> Experience in an academic library. Preference will be given to candidates
> with experience in document delivery, interlibrary loan, periodical
> services, circulation, and supervision of staff. Preference will be given
> to candidates with experience planning and teaching instruction sessions
> in an electronic environment, with an emphasis on information competence
> and active learning. Preference will be given to applicants with
> experience creating Web pages. Experience in collection development
> activities is also desirable. Second advanced degree is highly desirable
> as is evidence of professional development activities, including
> publication.

> SALARY:
> Appointment at the Senior Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian rank.
> Salary ranges from $46,488 to $58,740 commensurate with experience.

> collections of some 2,000,000 items in a variety of formats: 765,000 books
> and audiovisual materials; 2,500 currently received periodical
> subscriptions; 400,000 documents; 900,000 microforms; and 100 electronic
> databases. The Library uses the Innovative Interfaces integrated library
> system. The staff includes 20 librarians and 40 paraprofessionals, plus
> approximately 250 student assistants. The CSU has been under collective
> bargaining agreements since 1982.
