 Position: SYSTEMS AND DIGITAL SERVICES COORDINATOR
 Description: 
      The Marine Biological Laboratory seeks qualified candidates for
the position of Systems and Digital Services Manager. Under the 
direction of the Director of Information Systems, the Systems and 
Digital Services Manager administers the integrated library system, 
develops web applications and serves as liaison between the 
Information Systems Department and the library staff. This position 
will lead the digital information planning effort and implement 
digital initiatives such as the creation of prototype interface tools
for delivery of multimedia data, metadata, develop portals for 
institutional intranets and web publishing. The successful candidate 
will also offer support and in the use of database technologies, 
related software tools and web-based programming.

 Duties: 
    The successful candidate will coordinate information technology 
initiatives with other departments in the laboratory and coordinates 
outreach computer instructions. Must have extensive knowledge of 
Internet resources in Science and new digital initiatives. Implement 
and manage new research fronts in information distribution. Administer
the library web site and participates in the development of web-based
digital education. The Systems and Digital Services Manager will 
also provide desktop support, install both hardware and software 
applications as well as manage small networks and represents ISD 
on library committees at the local and regional level.

 Education: 
    QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess at least one of the following: 
Graduate degree in information science, library science, 
human-computer interaction or similar field. Several years' 
experience managing information architecture in an academic or 
business setting. Experience working with technical staff and 
demonstrable project-management skills. Prior working knowledge 
of automated library systems, preferably with Voyager. Knowledge 
of SQL, report writers, designing web sites that facilitate ease of 
access to information. Knowledge of Windows95/NT/2000, client 
protocols and utilities such as Z39.50, TCP/IP, FTP and other major 
software applications. Strong interpersonal, written and oral 
communication skills required. Hands on small network administration 
skills and experience in a multi platform system.
    PREFERRED: Experience with digitization systems, LAN's, Network 
Operating Systems such as Solaris, NT, Linux, cgi scripting; and 
HTML, SML and SGML including DTDs or equivalent.
