Peter Scott's announcement of his new Libdex resource reminds
me that I have been intending to announce some recent milestones
and improvements to my lib-web-cats database of libraries.

While lib-web-cats still relies on a DB/TextWorks database from
Inmagic, Inc, it now uses Perl, ODBC and SQL to give me more
control of how it searches and displays results. I was previously
using their WebPublisher interface. The interface includes a basic
search, a geographic browse page, and complex search form.

lib-web-cats currently lists over 5,000 libraries. It is hosted on
servers provided by the Jean & Alexander Heard Library at
Vanderbilt University, and is edited and maintained by me. This is
a non-commercial effort with no advertising. The information in the
database helps me track trends in library automation systems.

The information available for the library listings include: library
name, associated institution's name, library type, address, city,
state, country, zip/postal code, web site URL, OPAC URL, current
automation system, any previous automation system, collection
size, annual circulation, and affiliations. Each field is searchable.

I welcome suggestions for improvements to this resource and any
corrections to any of the listings. I also encourage any library to
submit its information that is not currently listed. Please feel free
to link to lib-web-cats.
