POSITION: Information Technologies Librarian
EFFECTIVE DATE: June 2001
The University of West Alabama, a small state-supported co-educational
institution with an enrollment of 1900 and located in west central Alabama,
seeks a creative and an enthusiastic Information Technologies Librarian for
one full-time tenure-track faculty position. Earliest employment date is
June 2001.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Essential:
1. ALA accredited degree.
2. Experience with an integrated online system.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of current library information.
4. Experience in web design.
5. Strong analytical skills and excellent oral and written
communication.
6. Strong problem solving skills, organizational skills, and ability to
provide professional leadership.
7. Strong commitment to patron service.
8. Knowledge of and experience with print, electronic, and web based
resources.
9. Ability to provide effective reference and research assistance to
University faculty, students, and other library patrons.
10. Ability to meet criteria for promotion and tenure.
11. Ability to work cooperatively in a changing environment and ability
to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
12. Ability and willingness to work as a team member in enhancing all
areas of library services.
13. Ability and flexibility to work within several areas of library
services and operations.
Desirable:
1. Experience with the Endeavor Voyager system.
2. Interest and demonstrated experience in developing new and creative
solutions to library technology.
FUNCTIONS:
The Information Technology Librarian works under the direction of the
Assistant Director and is responsible for maintaining and developing the
library's computer systems using a broad range of software and hardware
technologies.
The successful candidate will be responsible for administering the library's
Voyager System, including generating reports, and coordinating maintenance
with the University's Office of Information Systems. Other responsibilities
include design and maintenance of library's web presence and electronic
resources. Librarian will also participate in public services activities--
including some evening and weekend hours as scheduled-library instruction
program, University committees and professional organizations, and work on
specific projects as assigned. The UWA Learning Resources Center is a small
academic library committed to providing personal service to all patrons.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
1. Academic rank with salary and rank dependent upon qualifications and
experience. Salary range begins at $34,286 and is competitive, depending on
experience.
2. Twelve month appointment.
3. Faculty status.
4. Tenure track.
5. Participation in State teacher retirement.
6. Sick leave, and excellent health, dental, and life insurance benefits.
7. Vacation and professional leave days provided.
